The “Swanning Around Selby” booklet launched by the Society on 19th September 2014 and developed with generous financial assistance from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will help the reader/walker to understand key places, events and people that contribute to Selby’s rich history and heritage.
The booklet, now in a 4th Edition released in May 2017, contains information on Selby’s history, the magnificent Abbey church and a hidden gem, the medieval monastic warehouse of Abbot’s Staith.
Six themed self-guided walks, of between 100 yards and 3 miles in length, lead the walker to approximately sixty “stations” of historical significance to the town.
You will discover information on the places, buildings and people that have featured in Selby’s history over the last 1000 years.
