In 2009 Selby Civic Society was pleased to assist with and co-sponsor a series of guided walk leaflets covering historic aspects of Selby. This project formed part of the ‘Selby’s Hidden Heritage’ initiative, largely funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, along with Selby District Council and North Yorkshire County Council, and delivered by Groundwork North Yorkshire.
The project ran from 2008 – 2011 and these leaflets were produced in 2009. As it is now several years since their production, some information on them is now out-of-date and inaccurate, but it remains possible to follow the course of the walks, and the Civic Society thought they would remain of interest.
The ‘Renaissance Project’ referred to in the leaflets was funded by the then Regional Development Agency, ‘Yorkshire Forward’ who played a major part in the revamping of Selby’s Market Place, repaving of Gowthorpe and parts of Ousegate and development of the Amphitheatre, Waterfront garden and Timeline adjacent to the River Ouse.

Please note that parts of the leaflets in the e-version appear upside-down. You should be able to rotate the page to correct this for on-screen viewing. However, it is like this so that if you print them the text on the folded paper version will be correctly oriented.
