Selby Civic Society member David Lewis’s latest book “River Ouse Bargeman” has been published by Pen & Sword Books Ltd.
It tells the story of bargee Laurie Dews who worked on the River Ouse from 1937 to 1987.and is now the only man remaining with first hand experience of this lost way of life.
In the book, Laurie’s anecdotes are supplemented with factual commentary illustrated with many photographs, extracts from documents and maps.
