On 15th July 2015 – the 125th anniversary of the granting of a patent to David Foster for equipment that eventually became known as Table Tennis – a Blue Plaque was installed on his former home in Micklegate, Selby.
Attended by Civic Society members, past and present members of Selby Table Tennis Club and a historian from the International Federation of Table Tennis, the plaque was unveiled by Society chairman, Michael Dyson.
A commemorative brochure was produced and members and guests enjoyed a buffet tea in the adjacent “Abbey Caf?”.
This is the fourth such plaque that the Society has installed in Selby. All the Society’s plaques can be viewed by going to the “Plaques” page of this website.
