Selby Civic Society have released their new programme of events and speaker meetings for 2026.
The first meeting will be on Thursday 19th February 2026, starting at 7.30pm, and will be held at Portholme Church, Portholme Road, Selby. £2 for members, £5 for non-members, which includes light refreshments.
“Meet the Butler” will be performed by Chris Cade, Actor and Storyteller.
“The year is 1871, and there are two vacancies at Brodsworth Hall, South Yorkshire. Make sure you know your place in the Victorian social order!”
Chris Cade is a UK based actor and storyteller, specializing in historical, costumed educational theatre across Yorkshire and beyond. Based in York, he has over 25 years of experience creating immersive, character-driven performances.
Chris has been a favourite of audiences in Selby over the years, and the Civic Society are looking forward to welcoming him once again for what will no doubt be a fun and informative evening.

The Society have an interesting range of events this year, from learning about the ‘Battle of Flamborough Head’ to the ‘History of Selby’s War Memorial Hospital.’ Non members are very welcome to attend our friendly events.
