This 2005 Blue Plaque celebrates Sir Jonathan Hutchinson’s birth in Selby in 1828 in the brick building in the banner photograph above. It was installed on what is now an office building of Westmill Foods.
Hutchinson became an eminent surgeon, naturalist and educationalist. He established a museum in Selby, sadly closed in the 1960s, but there is a plaque to his memory in the restaurant on Park Street that once housed the museum.
The photograph below shows the plaque being presented to Westmill Food’s manager in the presence of three generations of Hutchinson’s relatives.
