Selby Civic Society won the 2014 “Peter Spawforth Trophy” awarded by the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies at its AGM on 31st January. This annual prize is presented to the Society judged to have produced the most innovative and valuable project  for the community it serves, and Selby’s “Swanning Around Selby” history and heritage guide to the town beat off competition from nine other regional Societies.

Receiving the trophy from YHACS President Peter Cooper, Selby Civic Society’s Chairman Michael Dyson thanked members who had worked to complete the project, and paid tribute to the Heritage Lottery Fund for their generous financial support.

To date some 3500 copies of the booklet, designed by Cawood graphic designer Karen Vipass, have been freely distributed around the town for the use of residents and visitors.
